The Australian boer goat industry is in a developing stage, and many boer goat breeders require a record management system that assists them in their breeding program. Optimal Business Solutions has identified a need in this industry for a simple breeder’s management system, one that contains a simple event recorder as well as the facility to automatically generate registration forms.
We have developed GOAT TRACKS, a MS Excel based spreadsheet program as well as a breeder’s management service using GOAT TRACKS as a basis. In addition, we have developed several field record forms making the collection and recording of vital information a breeze.

Ś EVENT RECORDER & REGISTRATION PROGRAM
Do you know how each of your Does and Bucks are performing in your boer goat breeding program? How good are your breeding program records? Finding the paperwork of registering your goats with the BGBAA too much? You are not alone!
What you need is GOAT TRACKS, the Boer
Goat Breeder Event Recorder and Registration Program developed by Optimal Business
Solutions specifically for members of the Boer Goat Breeders’ Association of
Australia. This program involves recording the birth events required to
register your boer goats with the BGBAA and ‘tracking’ this information to
build up a history of the production performance of your Does and Bucks. This
history of events is then utilised to its full potential through the custom
features of the program.
Main List, where each event
is recorded
Each 'event' is recorded on a separate row in the program,
and through the powerful MS Excel feature called AutoFilter, the user can
filter the data with user specified criteria. This is the "Event Recorder'
part of the program. Individual items of each event are all those required to
register offspring with the BGBAA, as well as weights (in kg) at different
intervals (weaning, post-weaning and yearling).
Through the AutoFilter feature you can specify any
criteria such as a specific Doe (by Doe Number or Doe Name). The filtered Main
List will then show only those entries to the Main List. A summary is provided
at the bottom of the Main List showing total number of births by sex
(males/females/total), by birth type, and by joining type, as well as average
weight at various stages (birth, weaning, post weaning, yearling). All you have
to do is view or print the 'filtered' report to obtain important information
about the production performance of your breeding stock.
A tip would be to record all those birth events even
if you are not going to register the offspring with the BGBAA (eg 1st or 2nd
cross males), as this information provides an indication as to the production
performance of your Does (and Bucks). Through time the data in the program
builds up to an important source of management information to enable you to
manage your boer goat breeding.
The user can quite readily specify which birth
events recorded to submit to the BGBAA for registration. No more handwritten
registration forms!
This Microsoft Excel 2000 spreadsheet
program has custom-built macros and menu commands, but requires little
knowledge of Microsoft Excel itself.

Ť BREEDER’S MANAGEMENT SERVICE
If you don’t have a computer or if the kids have taken over the computer, don’t despair! Optimal Business Solutions can provide you with a Boer Goat Breeder’s Management Service, using GOAT TRACKS as a basis. All you have to do is send us a copy of all the registration forms you send to the BGBAA for processing, and we will do the rest.
For an initial set up cost of $132* we will set up a breeding management system for you and provide you with a detailed report on the production performance of your Does and Bucks. A complimentary binder is provided to store these performance reports for future reference.
These reports comprise between 8 and 50 pages depending on the number of bucks and does in your breeding program. The following is an indication of what can be expected:

for each grade of doe (1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th
cross, full blood and pure bred)

for each buck in the breeding program

Two pages of
standard performance graphs for the entire herd and for the different grades of

The performance reports for bucks and does are limited to 25 (eg 4 bucks and 21 does) or unless otherwise agreed.
Regular updated reports can be provided for an annual fee of $88* which entitles you to updated reports twice a year. You are under no obligation to continue your membership after the first year.
